Polluted water. Destroyed ecosystems. Lost livelihoods.
This is what happens when banks like JPMorgan Chase support mining companies that dump waste in the ocean. Already phased out in many parts of the world, this outdated practice should be banned once and for all - not propped up by big banks.
JPMorgan Chase facilitates investment in six mining companies poisoning fragile marine ecosystems and traditional livelihoods with mining waste, including Newcrest in Papua New Guinea, First Quantum Minerals, which dumps mine waste in the Black Sea off the coast of Turkey. The bank was previously connected to Nordic Mining ASA, which plans to dump mine waste into a National Salmon Fjord in Norway.
